Mr. McGibblets beat Real Life Al Bundy 229-220, a final captured at 8:26 a.m. Pacific Tuesday, in the kind of matchup where both managers should feel slightly accused. Kenneth Walker’s 61 and Breece Hall’s 35 carried McGibblets, with the Eagles defense adding 31. Bundy countered with Jalen Hurts at 65, Amon-Ra St. Brown at 37 and the Steelers defense at 40. The difference was not star power. It was which lineup wasted less of it.
Bundy’s loss is easier to sketch. A.J. Brown scored 5 from a WR slot, Brock Bowers gave a zero at tight end, Brandon Aubrey had 2, and James Cook III managed only 13. Hurts nearly dragged the whole contraption home anyway. The bench offered only partial relief. Mike Evans scored 21 and could have helped at receiver or flex, but George Kittle scored just 2, so tight end was never getting fully solved from inside the Week 1 roster.
McGibblets won and still leaves behind a crime scene. Joe Burrow scored 39, but Trevor Lawrence dropped 72 on the bench. Ja’Marr Chase gave 2, DeVonta Smith 10 and Luther Burden III 11, while Christian Watson posted 53 unused. Dallas Goedert scored 39 on the bench against Sam LaPorta’s 9 in the starting TE slot. Those are three large hindsight gaps, not proof that Lawrence, Watson and Goedert were obvious starts before kickoff.
The current rosters show the more responsible Tuesday response coming from Bundy. Brown is now on IR, Evans has moved into the starting receiver group, Kittle into tight end, and Bowers to the bench while his Week 2 status remains uncertain. McGibblets made no current changes, which is defensible only because the roster is already loaded with solutions. Bundy faces the Rebels next and needs functioning slots, not nostalgia. McGibblets gets Queen in the North and would prefer fewer clown horns this time.
